    Your First Day and Beyond

Whether you enroll on campus or online, you'll be able to connect with other new students and form relationships that will last a lifetime.

College is not just about your academic program, it's about developing interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills that will open doors for the rest of your life.

I've been able to make friends super easily from the groups I've been in, basketball. Everyone's super easy to get along with, and everything's really engaging here.

If you want a family atmosphere, because the class sizes are pretty small, you definitely get to know people in your classes and get to know your professors. All my professors have always known my name. And I think that's really cool.

That's why they makes Fort Hays State University really special is the connection that you build with your classmates. And then the staff here especially.

You get to meet people. I mean, you - especially as a freshman it's hard coming from a different area. And then just being placed here with a whole bunch of people. Especially if you get a random roommate, I did not want to room with anyone from my hometown, because I wanted to meet new people.

I call it "forced friends" at first because you're kind of forced to live with these people. But then you make your connections right away. And I tell people, it's a great way to get your foot in making friends right away. You get your foot in the door making connections. And just being part of a community where everyone is going through the first awkward couple weeks of school together. You have a built in stead of your the classes that you take so you don't feel like you're alone. When you come to college. You feel like you have people right there with you.

I had a wonderful roommate my freshman year and we're best friends to this day. And she really helped me to, so having someone that I'm like, "this is my best friend. I'm gonna have her for the rest of my life." And she helped me along a lot of different paths and struggles. And I found her at Fort Hays.
