The FHSU Ethic of Care

Here at Fort Hays, you're supported. You are supported by your bosses in your employment opportunities that you have here. You're supported by your faculty members, the chairs of your departments. And I think that's what people look for, they want to not be a number they want to be a person. 

Fort Hays is very intentional. They're intentional with their students. I know the faculty is very intentional with their students, and helping them and growing and giving them resources. 

They're amazing. They've always been helpful whenever- especially with athletics and travel a lot. So they're always willing to work with you. Whenever teachers see you struggling, or you need help, you can just go to them, they're always willing to help. 

Once I realized that they do care, and they do want to help you. I'd be emailing them and talking with them. And that really helped and then I was able to finish the semester. They definitely care about you and want you to do good and want to help you. 

As far as the dedication that it takes. It doesn't just begin and end with the student, it expands beyond to the faculty and the staff. That's something that's been instilled. And I think not only in Fort Hays, but Hays as a community. Growing up in Hays, as a kid, you know, that's kind of something that we preached from middle school to high school coaches and teachers, you don't really give up, you know, if something doesn't work, you try something else. And I think that's kind of just a byproduct of Hays, and of the university as well. 

I've been able to email teachers. go into their offices to review test with them. They've been super supportive with that long nights at the school. 

If you're struggling, they're going to be like, the faculty here is going to be like, "if you really want to do this, if you're willing to put in willing to put in all that hard work, we're going to help you. We're not going to leave you behind." It doesn't matter who you are, doesn't matter where you come from, it doesn't matter what you have, if you want to make something for yourself the university is gonna help you. 

I've just had so much help. And even like still to this day, everyone's like, "oh, if you ever need something, let me know." I know that they're going to be there for me and it's really nice to know that you have that here.
